I will go to Australia in Jan 08 for a 2 weeks wedding trip. I will go to Sydney, Gold Coast, Tasmania (Hobart), Singapore.

I think basically, if you just go to Sydney and Tasmania, $20000 for 2 weeks 2 ppls is only the cost of the travel package.

Usually, you can buy the package to Sydney for a 4 days 3 nights one and see the airtickets can extend to 2 weeks. You can go to Tasmania (Hobart) by Jetstar or Virgin Blue which is the domestic flight. The cost for single trip of Jetstar from Sydney to Hobart will be AUD$109 (HK$710 approx.) for each person included tax.

You can stay in apartment in Tasmania which have equipped with kitchen and laundry. You can save some money in the meals if you cook by yourself. You can try to search the hotel/apartment through www.wotif.com

The apartment which have better facilities and location usually cost a thousand or more one night. If you just require a place to sleep, you can also try the backpacker apartment which will be more cheaper at around HK$350 - 550 per night. Of course, you cannot ask for more for the location and facilities.

You can join local tour in Tasmania if you only got 2 persons. That will be more easily to visit the fruit farm, factory, vinyard or some suburb area. You may have a look on:

    www.tourstogo.com.au

Thus, basically, if travel to Sydney and Tasmania only, it costs approx.:

$5500 Sydney Package 4 days 3 nights not included the Taxes
$710 Single Trip from Sydney to Hobart Tasmania
$710 Return Trip from Hobart to Sydney
$300 x 9 nights Estimated Apartment in Tasmania each person
    Total $9620 each person x 2 persons = $19240
However, included the tax, insurance, mis. charges, the cost will be at least $23000.

The cost of local tours, local transportation, meals, etc are expensive in Australia. I think for a 14 days trip, the least expenses for 2 people will be around $12000.

*If you only got $20000 budget for 2 persons, I think you can consider to shorten your trip or try to join the travel agency for group tour.

Actually, I have planned several itinerary but haven't quote from the travel agency for the package price. If you want to share, just email to me at meow8dotcom@yahoo.com.hk

    Hope can help you.

    meow8,

Thanks a lot for your treasuable information! it's really helpful.

what i meant $20,000 is for one person, so after your estimation, i guess our plan is feasible!

since i've never been to Aus. before, so as the first visitor to Aus, which places are highly recommended and must-go?

Congratulations! =) I live in Sydney gar~ would love to help you with some suggestions!

When are you going and which part of Aus are you going to ar? Will you be going to Sydney and Tasmania for 14 days?

Tasmania is beautiful for photos - mainly site seeing and not much to play if you're an active person - so I suggest you go for 3-4 days - winter is very very dry and cold.

If your trip start from Sydney:

If you're planning to go in winter (ie June- early Sept) - then you can join ski tours from Sydney - there's chinese tours (around A$3xx) for 4 days of ski tours, they provide you accomodation and transport (bus from Sydney around 5hrs) - you can join ski class there.

If you're not very active and like site seeing - then you can spend 4-5 days in Sydney, rent a car so you can drive for some day trips, it's not very convinent in Sydney for 1-2 hour drive day trips without a car. You can also visit Canberra for a day while you're here (3hours drive from Sydney).

Or if you want to travel a bit further, join a tour to Melbourne, or buy a domestic ticket from Sydney to Melbourne (around A$1xx pp return) and go by yourself, I sometimes need to travel there for work, it's not very hard to go around the area. =)

    From places other than Sydney:

If you're planning to go to Queensland - it's warm all year around but during winter is not very enjoyable for swimming (water is cold) - you join local tours for diving and water sports.

I think you can't play the whole Aus in 14 days - but you can select a couple of places to suit your style. I suggest no need to join a package tour from HK if you're on honeymoon cos you can come here to join some local tours and also have other times to yourself.

Let me know if you need more info la... =)

    Cheers

    Hi Irence

You will be rushing and waste all your time & money on travelling from one place to another if you do all the places that you want.

When are you planning to go ar? Cos summer and winter can be very different trips in Aus gar...

Cairns and Gold Coast are both in QLD but they're pretty far away so you can't treat that as 1 place.

Cairns: mainly serious water sports like diving, if you want to learn diving you need to be there for a few more days, if you just want to hire a cruise to see the carol, then you don't need to know how to swim - of cos summer is better for this place

Gold Coast: Famous for surfing, lots of beaches and theme parks, I've been there a few times, 4 days is enough (prefer Thurs-Sun), if you rent a car, you just pick it up from the airport. I suggest 1 day Brisbane (capital city of QLD), 2 days of theme park of your choice (check out here: www.theme-parks.com.au), 1 day just relax at beaches and enjoy yourselves at Surfers Paradice (you can go surfing if you're interested). They have a night market on Friday night along the beach and it's very relax and you'll see a lot of local hand craft for sale.

I suggest you choose one of the above to go.. after that you catch a plane to Sydney.

Sydney/Canberra: Stay in Sydney for 4-5 days, use 1 day for Canberra. You should hire a car if you want to sight seeing. If you don't want to drive, you can join a few 1 day local tours to Canberra, Port Stephens (see Dolphins), blue mountains (3-sisters). You should reserve 1 or 2 days to sight see around Sydney city, Darling Harbour, Manly, Bondi, The Rocks.

Melbourne: After your Sydney trip, catch a plane to Melbourne (1.5hrs), Melbourne don't have a lot of things to see within one day (ie need at lesat 5hrs drive from one place to another), you can go to Philip Island and see Penguin Parade with a local tour. Another good option is get a 3 day tour from Sydney to Melbourne, they'll take you around Melbourne city and some famous site seeing places, that way you no need to worry about where to go.

Tasmania: If you jon the Melbourne tour from Syd-Melb, they'll take you back to Syd so your flight will be from Syd-Hobart, I haven't been to Tas myself but a few of my friends been and sounds like it's not very complicated to travel around by yourself. Tas is very quiet but the views are beautiful =) 3-4 days should be ok with this.

Here's the days you should travel:
    - Choose Cairns or Gold Coast for 4 days
    - Sydney for 4-5 days
    - Melbourne for 3 days
    - Tasmania for 4 days

I suggest you give up one depending on your interest so you can fit 14 days into your trip. e.g. Syd-Melb-Tas, or Carins/GC-Syd-Melb, or Cairns/GC-Syd-Tas

Let me know if you have more questions la~ Love to help =)
