i totally agreed with you that participating in more activities were more important than accomodation and eating. most probably we would drive by ourselves, but still need the bus for sometimes. thanks you for your information, i would digest it later ![]() may i ask where is Springfield? |

i 've just back from newzealand la ![]() It was a wonderful place for honeymoon although i was the so called peak season, but we still can get all the activities i wanted, it was not as tight as i previously thought... it was a extremely visitor-friendly place with load of nature but still numerous adventure the people there were really nice asian food was readily avavilable but seafood and lamb racks were highly recommended finally we join the local tour in south island and rent a car in north island, but from the financial and emtional point of view, i would strongly advice to drive by self if you can... as the road sign was clear and there was not much car and you can stop whenever you find the wonderful landscape for taking picutres, which was for sure would be very frequent... the weather now was excellent as well... gentle sun and small rain occasionally... for my journey... day1: HK -> auckland -> christchurch day2: to kaikora for whale watch day3: christchurch -> lake tekapu -> mount cook -> queenstown day4: go to fox glacier day5: full day walk in glacier day6: back to queestown via wanaka day7: activities in queenstown day8: milfond sound (coach, cruise, coach) day9: fly to auckland and drive to rotorua, enjoy polynesian spa day10 maori village, geothermal region, waiotapu and polynesian spa again day11 drive to waitomo caves and black-water rafting (black abyss) day12 drive to auckland and have city walk day13 back to HK i am pleased to share but did not know where to start... hahaha |

hi willywilly,
glad to share with you ar concerning the price of the meal, it varies a lot for simple asian food (no sashime), it can be cheap to NZ$30 for 2 people for seafood, about NZ$60-100 (with lobster bor) for 2 people there was a bar and restaurant in auckland call "the occidental", it was a highly recommended shop, it sold pot served mussels which was really delicious and low-priced, can you imagine NZ$17 can have a whole full pot of mussels, really full for 2 people already, but i cannot remember the address, you may ask the reception if you live in city centre of auckland...highly recommended remind you, no service charge in NZ, no need for tips if you don't want to.... concerning the glacier hike, i went to fox as Lake Matheson was nearby, only took 1 hour walk / 5 minutes drive there from the town center. there was 2 hour walk, half day walk, full day walk, helicopter walk, ice-climbing all necessary equipment, including shoes, wool socks, raincoat, gears would be provided... you just need thin tousers (no jeans), warm upper clothes, sunglasses and sunblock... 2 hour: just see the glacier, no walk on glacier half day: 2 hour rainforest, 2 hour glacier full day: 2 hr rainforest, 4 hour glacier helicopter: fly to higher up and walk for some time on retrospect, i would say half day or full day walk are not significantly different, if you don't want to be too exhausted, half day walk have good view too, but as i would stay there to sleep after the walk, i don't want to waste the time in hotel after a half day walk ![]() i brought cash and visa as well, i bring quite a lot of cash which i don't think it was required as even the supermarket accepted visa for low as NZ$10, but of course i am not sure whether all shops would be liked that and i did not receive my bank statement yet, i am not sure which would be cheaper (as i am afraid that bank would quote me a higher price for NZ$) BTW, when would you go, and how's your journey? which airline had you chosen, and how much for your flight? |

hi evryone!
i'm new to this thread n i m planning for a trip to New Zealand departing DEC28 for 8 days. i may skip northern island (except dat i gotta land in Auckland for a few hrs transiting). i wanna do: whale watching at kaikoura Gloss worm cave at Te Anau (given its on the way to Milford Sound) milford sound cruise: penguins + seals dunedin: penguins glacier (franz josef or fox): heli-hike farm stay (if doable given the limited time we've in NZ) Mt Cook I m also thkg if i sud take the train to Greymouth, crossing the mt. I wanna visit some hot springs but dats not a priority. anythg i sudn't miss? i'm also worried abt accomodation as it's around the peak season. if anyone likes to share ur itinerary, pls do! my itineraries look vry much like yours (in fact it's based on urs haha...) i wanna ask... aft the whale watch at kaikora, wl it b possible i drive straight to lake tekapo? fr lake tekapo to mt cook village, do u thk it's worthwhile to stay there for the night? wl it b possible for me to get fr mt cook village, going straight to fox/franc josef glacier, spend half a day there, probably taking heli-hike to save sometimes. can it b done w/i one day? i wanna skip all sort of activities in queenstown but i do wanna go to milford sound. so wl u recommend me to drop by wanaka on my way fr glacier to queenstown? is it doable to drive fr Fox directly to milford n spend the night there? for the northern island, either i skip evrythg or i'll just visit the hot spring. is rotorua worth-going? or shall i substitute that with hammer spring (in the southern island)? i believ u drove fr auckland to rotorua. how long does it roughly take? i've got loads of questions n dunno whom i sud talk to. hope someone can help me out. my email's maxie@ngbert.org thanks! |
